Blog Stage 8

I am commenting on Andrew's Healthcare!!! post.
In this blog Andrew talks about why the Obama administration chose to pass the Affordable Care Act knowing that it wasn't ready for the public. Also that they knew about our current healthcare problems that still have not been fixed. I agree with Andrew in the fact that the government is supposed to be helping the people instead placing us in a horrible position. Some will be forced to drop their insurance, pay taxes, and also as Andrew said the premium costs will double. The actions taken by the government were wrong, if they knew the Affordable Care Act wasn't ready to launch they shouldn't have allowed it. Healthcare is very important, so making it harder on the people to access it and pay for it is messed up.

Guantanamo bay spies?

The whole point of Guantanamo bay is to keep the hard-core criminals locked away, but as you can see in this video the U.S. came up with a plan on using the prisoners to their advantage. The prisoners were housed in penny lane, a base located near Guantanamo. They were given real beds, private kitchens and showers, pornography for those who ever wanted it, and paid millions of dollars by a CIA account code-named pledge. After 9/11 the  U.S. trained prisoners to be spies then infiltrate them back into Al Qaeda. The big question here is will this help America, or will it back fire?

Michael Leiter feels it was a good decision because with the training these prisoners were given, they will be able to inform us before Al Qaeda is able to plan an attack. On the other side of that point is that if these "spies" return back to Al Qaeda with all the information that was maybe given to them they will choose to help in attacking us. That is where the government went wrong in this plan, what if? what if the prisoners do help in protecting our country and we will have an inside ally watching our backs, but also what if they choose to plot against us when reunited with Al Qaeda members which would be the worst problem that can happen.

I definitely do not agree with the tactics our government is using to get information. Though it can be beneficial, it can also be very dangerous. These prisoners are high level criminals that can have change of heart at any moment. And if this plan doesn't unfold the way our government envisioned it then our country will suffer greatly.

Blog Stage 6

I am commenting on U.S Events Education Equals Money. Maria argued that the government shouldn't be making a profit off college students loans and the interest rates should stop rising. I agree, College isn't cheap so many struggle to pay their way through leaving them slumped in debt after years of school. And as you said we are the future of this country so college should be a more inviting experience.

There is not much criticism I can do here because everything you said is true. Government is once again doing a fine job at taking care of small problems, but terrible with the biggest most important ones. I can tell you wrote this with some emotion because this something that can hurt a lot of us in the end. you made a good argument because its something that thousands of students would agree with.

healthcare

Healthcare is one of our countries biggest problems at the moment, and I guess the government is taking some steps to fixing them. my argument is that Obamacare isn't fixing anything. Health insurance should be something that people are least worried about. Sick equals help, very simple concept, why not make health insurance free like Cuba, Canada, Britain, and France. We spend so much money copying others to make us better, why not follow in health insurance?

There's a film called "Sicko" by Michael Moore. Where he shows the flaws in American health insurance at the time in 2007. Scary numbers like 45 million Americans uninsured, and the other insured 200 million can't quite afford it. Problems like low income individuals that can't afford, cost, denial of coverage, and many others. Yes, ObamaCare is for the disabled, low-income family, and to be most affordable.

A tax? yes, in this video new ObamaCare taxes you probably don't know about they explain the tax you will receive if you're on high priced plans starting in 2018. So I thought this new care was to help to make us pay more for having a nice health plan. making this one of the highest tax increases in American history. So what is ObamaCare fixing? Don't get me wrong, millions of people will be insured because of it, but if not aware of the behind closed doors scheme that's being pulled, no money is being saved.

Aside from ObamaCare and all other insurance I feel we should take a big step to making health insurance free. As a country full of resources and opportunity we should be able to make it able to happen. The countries I listed before aren't more developed than we are, but are treating their hardworking citizens with a luxury that over here is way out of reach. Now will people be insured because of Obama? yes, but I bet after years pass they'll find out how many steps backwards we went.

Whats More Important?

what's the problem with doctors spending extra time with their patients in appointments? Ann Brenoff from the huffingtonpost tells her personal encounter with this problem, titled On The Fly: The Doctor Will See You ... When Her Boss Says She Can.

Ann's doctor had a habit of staying overtime with her patients to just sometimes talk, keeping her waiting an extra half hour for her appointment. but why does her doctor do this? because she feels that after talking with a patient and really getting to know their life style it makes her job easier. she wants to get to know the patient better so maybe following their health record won't be as hard or telling them to stop a certain bad habit every now and then. the doctor even talks to the teenagers, giving them her card in case they want to talk about sex, drugs or any other personal problems they can't go to their parents with. she says "she needs to care for the total person, not just the flu that's going around."

the medical corporation wants doctors to spend less time with their patients because the more patients, the more money. is that really all that matters these days? money? to work in such a field as medicine a doctor should be able to take extra time out to connect with who's handing them their days pay. at first Ann disapproved of her doctors actions, but after witnessing how much she cared for her patients, her thoughts changed.

Ann disagrees with the fact the doctor takes so much time with every patient, but agrees to the fact that it's for a better cause toward helping her patients. I also go along with because honestly I wouldn't want to wait an extra half hour past my appointment because she "yapping" with other patients. but, also I don't have a problem with someone taking the extra step in knowing me as a person in order to help me and my health, which is her main job description.

Ann contemplated about leaving, but figured it's not too bad. scheduled an appointment for the following week, and brought a book to read in case she took a little extra time.

The Government isn't Worried?

time ideas.com

Should we be worried about somali terrorist? Jessica Sturn feels our government should. Al-shabab is the new group of terrorist trying to make a name for themselves, and has caught the attention of Americans. You probably know the name of this group from the Nairobi's Westgate mall attack where they killed more than 67 people were killed. Jessica thinks that our government needs to be more involved in the movement of Al-shabab, knowing they want to plan a bigger attack on U.S. soil. They also are building their gang through a recruiting  "jihad rap" is what they call it. Focusing on Somali-Americans that maybe have been through tramas in their life, and giving them an attitude of killing others that don’t agree with them. Should the U.S. be paying more attention to this group? yes, if they are going as far as recruiting young men from our country to follow them in hurting others, why shouldn’t that be enough. Jessica has evidence from former members of the group, one being Mohamed who was recruited and taken for gun training in an old italian graveyard, but later quit the organization. Mohamed had symptomes of trama and after he left, moved to canada but was unable to get a high paying job so he blames "the system". Jessica knows if we don't take this group seriously, like al-queida they will take it upon themselves to pull off a devastating attack. Osama, 9/11, and other attacks should be enough to know the seriousness of these foreign terrorist. They want to be known and feared so taking lives will not be a problem for them as they already demonstrated in the Westgate attack. Sturn knows what can happen, why doesn't the government?

Navy Yard Shooting

USA Today
Aaron Alexis, age 34, suffering from a "mental illness" conducted a shooting on a navy yard. Alexis was a navy contractor. when one day while in his hotel being questioned by Newport police he said that he was hearing voices. so the police made an attempt to contact the naval base warning them about Alexis, but weren't sure if the message went through beyond the security on base. the security guards said they didn't see Alexis as a threat because of the state of mind he was in while being talked to at the hotel that night. having past issues with the police for gun use,(in 2004 he shot the tires of a construction mans car after altercation, and in 2010 arrested for shooting through his apartment ceiling) that wasn't enough to not let him on to the naval base. And after being let in with more than one gun, Alexis found a spot, and opened fire on innocent people killing twelve, also losing his own life. so why wouldn't he be seen as a threat? after seeing his past encounters with officials for gun use, and even after being informed to watch out for him in case he wants to enter the base. after reading this you can see how people think. someone has a "mental illness" but doesn't seem like a threat? this article shows that things that shouldn't happen, happen because higher authorities are not paying close attention to early signs of a disaster.
