Navy Yard Shooting

USA Today
Aaron Alexis, age 34, suffering from a "mental illness" conducted a shooting on a navy yard. Alexis was a navy contractor. when one day while in his hotel being questioned by Newport police he said that he was hearing voices. so the police made an attempt to contact the naval base warning them about Alexis, but weren't sure if the message went through beyond the security on base. the security guards said they didn't see Alexis as a threat because of the state of mind he was in while being talked to at the hotel that night. having past issues with the police for gun use,(in 2004 he shot the tires of a construction mans car after altercation, and in 2010 arrested for shooting through his apartment ceiling) that wasn't enough to not let him on to the naval base. And after being let in with more than one gun, Alexis found a spot, and opened fire on innocent people killing twelve, also losing his own life. so why wouldn't he be seen as a threat? after seeing his past encounters with officials for gun use, and even after being informed to watch out for him in case he wants to enter the base. after reading this you can see how people think. someone has a "mental illness" but doesn't seem like a threat? this article shows that things that shouldn't happen, happen because higher authorities are not paying close attention to early signs of a disaster.
